Chicago Homeschool Expo

We are excited that Susan Wise Bauer will be one of the featured speakers at the 2010 Chicago Homeschool Expo!

The Homeschool Expo is a “don’t miss” whole family two day event with hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of products where parents can review and purchase the latest curriculum, hear great speakers who give practical encouragement, and receive personalized help and answers to any question. Our workshops especially emphasize the practical aspects of working with children in ways that will promote their educational, social and emotional growth.

From gifted children all the way to the struggling learners – you’ll find great encouragement at the Expo. Helpful parents and other experts are willing to spend the time to demonstrate exactly how to homeschool in a way that fits your family’s lifestyle, (from a wide variety of perspectives of course!) and specifically how to make your family’s homeschool journey enjoyable and satisfying.

6:00 PM (On Location in Chicago): Steve Demme – Math U See Demo

See how fun and understandable math can be using manipulatives for concrete understanding of math concepts. Whether you’re a whiz at math or have struggled, this program is for you.

Andrew Pudewa is the director of the Institute for Excellence in Writing and a homeschooling father of seven.  Presenting throughout North America, he addresses issues relating to teaching, writing, thinking, spelling, and music with clarity and insight, practical experience and humor. His seminars for parents, students, and teachers have helped transform many a reluctant writer and have equipped educators with powerful tools to dramatically improve students’ skills.

Although he is a graduate of the Talent Education Institute in Matsumoto, Japan, and holds a Certificate of Child Brain Development from the Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, his best endorsement is from a young Alaskan boy who called him “the funny man with the wonderful words.” He and his beautiful, heroic wife Robin currently teach their three youngest children at home in Atascadero, California.

Math!

Math can be hard. Monday through Friday we sit at the table next to our children and do math problems. It takes forever to do just one page. Sometimes it feels like it is the only subject we get to. It becomes a monster…a math monster. We wonder if we should change math books or go back to the beginning of the one we’re already in. Read the rest of this entry »
